Ba'albek is one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in the world, because
many puzzles have not been successful answered here. One of it is
how the builders move and arrange the stones block weighing 1200 tons as shown above.
Ba'albek, or "city of Ba'al" (the Phoenician god's name) is a city that
located 86 km from Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. In this city there is an
essential relic of history
but also mysterious, related to the size and weight of the intact rock used as a building material of ancient Roman temples there.
The stones of the building are so large compared to the size of a
modern human. Formed with a smooth and tidy as parts of a magnificent building and artistic. But the most surprising thing is that heavy objects is
also have been
able to be formed and arranged in such
a way, whereas in the present era are still
too heavy to be lifted by a large crane at a time.
To the south
of Ba'albek, there is an excavation site of the former seems to be a
place for cutting large stones of
temple’s building materials.
In this place, also found a huge stone blocks (pictured below) and has been there since its cuts, more than 2,000 years ago. This stone block
called the "Stone of the Pregnant Woman" and declared as the largest processing stone in the world. Measuring 21.5 m
x 4.2 m with an estimated weight of 1,500 tons.
Historically, at first, Ba'albek
was inhabited by the Phoenician,
then occupied by the Greeks in 323-64 BC, and then changed the name of the city became "Heliopolis" (city of the sun). Year 64 BC, the city became a Roman colony
(Colonia Julia Augusta Felix Heliopolitana) in the reign of Julius Caesar. In The Roman occupation period, the
temples made from giant stone
has been built.
Dedicated to the ancient Roman god, Jupiter.
